Your room Your DomainHow you present yourself on cam is a big theme on Guide to Camming. As industry professionals and lifelong achievers, we truly believe that it makes a difference how you present yourself on cam, how you groom yourself, how you craft your behavior, and how you engage with your customers. Focus on those things which you have control over. It can make or break your cam adventure. And, heeded properly, can elevate your hours to the heights of financial freedom. It can also mean the difference between twiddling your thumbs or watching your bank account today, I’d like to offer you up one bit of wisdom that you can take with you as soon as you’re back online. It’s this: OWN YOUR DOMAIN. Or, said otherwise, YOUR ROOM, YOUR DOMAIN. Let’s break it down.

Your Domain 2You are in control of your room. Don’t let anyone try to tell you otherwise. You are the one who is on cam and you are the one who fans are coming to visit. They are on your channel, in your room. If they don’t like it, they can leave. Right? Right. Don’t be afraid to think otherwise. Sure, playing into their hands is recommended, but there’s no need for you to feel shy. Literally, it’s your chat room. The more you own your domain, the more your customers will want to hang out with you. You’ll start to see the same people coming to your room week after week.

Own your domain by expressing yourself in an authentic way. Don’t be afraid to show your face. Or, don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. Let loose and explore yourself. Let this side of your personality shine through. As we repeatedly say, “Be your own unique self.” Personally, I feel that camming is special because it allows customers to spend time with a real person. That’s YOU. Don’t ever forget that. Camming is all about connection (you -> fan and fan -> you). It’s all about opening yourself to letting people come close and spend time with you. And that… that’s a real gift. You are giving the gift of your time and attention.

Your Room So, take a deep breath and say to yourself, “It’s okay to be who you are.” Feels liberating, doesn’t it? This kind of thing is helpful. Actually, we wholly encourage it. The more you opt-in to the idea of “Your Room, Your Domain,” the more free you will feel. Everyone who comes to your room has chosen you. Use that wisdom to empower yourself and really enjoy your time on cam. Own it, dear model. You deserve it.

PROFILE PICS: WHAT SETS YOU APART

It’s a steamy summer night in the city. Imagine that you are someone looking to spend a few quality hours on a cam site. You’ll be looking for that extra-special model who’ll be the best choice for an evening in. Now, imagine that you come to your preferred cam site of choice and are confronted with a wall of profile pictures or images from the chat room (depending on the site). Your customer is going to think impulsively about his/her choice. That is, your customer will only spend a split second deciding which model he/she wants to spend time with. Snap your fingers. Click! Just like that.

However, it might be someone else. The only thing that you can do to catch that fish is to tailor your profile pic to represent the best version of yourself that you wish to display to potential customers. In this business you can’t please everyone, but you can control your niche, your image, your visual appeal. And the message in bringing this to your conscious awareness is that we live in a world of image. Controlling and shaping your profile image is of the utmost importance to how your fans will view you.

THE FIRST HOOK

One image is a poorly lit selfie that barely displays the model’s face or whatever appealing side of their body they are trying to express through the framing of the pic. The other profile picture is a professionally shot image that shows a tailored and carefully crafted image of the model in HD quality, a stunning representation of what the model is offering. Which pic do you think that you would click on? Think about it.

As a professional or aspiring webcam model, it’s always important to remember that your profile picture is the first thing any customer sees of you. Your name might seduce, but we are visual creatures. Your picture is everything. Not to crank up the pressure too highly, but this profile pic is your “image” on the site. Moreover, it is your business card, your poster, your advertisement and the first impression a customer has of you.

The rule of thumb here is that it’s important that your image be something captivating, eye catching and appealing. Also, the angle should be attractive, highlighting whichever part of you that you want coming to the forefront. In brief, it should display your best feature and your selling points.

IMAGE SPEAKS VOLUMES

It can even determine your “quality” as a model and can even decide, in a customer’s mind, if you are a top model, that is, a model who is worthy of top pay. Always, be aware of how you are portraying yourself. If you want to be paid like a professional model, you need to carry and represent yourself as one. Remember, customers don’t know that you are new.  Selfies are great for social media. But here you are a genuine model.

Customers know how to pick out models who will settle for less and models who expect top dollar. Which do you want to be? 

YOUR UNIQUE STYLE SETS YOU APART

Now, don’t get discouraged. Pick yourself up and get ready to rock. No cam site outright expects you to have a professional shoot done. They more than welcome new cam models. Maybe try an image that is Instagram worthy. Ask yourself, what does my profile image say about me? What does it say about me as a cam model? Are customers likely to pic me out of the other models on the site? Do I look fun? Am I captivating? Do I look appealing?

A generic, basic selfie is no competition to a model with professional images. It is easy to fake it. Get dolled up and have a captivating pose with good lighting. Having an image only showing your butt or your cleavage is great, but it is also a dime a dozen. Any customer can go into any room and find a great pair or great abs, legs, etc. That is not what sets you apart, and makes you unique. Your face is what sets you apart. Your unique style sets you apart.

Remember that… “Your unique style sets you apart.” It always will. When a customer decides to check out your site, they are drawn in by your profile pic. They are drawn in by your essence. Make them feel it. Be your best self.

ARE YOU OFFERING VODs?

Does your cam site offer you the chance to upload or sell “Video on Demand” content? If so, are you taking advantage of this potentially lucrative angle? Or, are you new to the idea of VODs and how they can work to your advantage?

“Video on Demand” clips and streaming content has been around for years now, but make sure you’re tapping into the possibilities in using them in ways that help you promote your brand and earn you extra income. Some cam sites offer the ability for you to either upload or sell your streamed (and recorded) cam shows.

Either way, these sites tend to give you the ability to create a unique title, write a description, add tags, and even set your own price point. Imagine if you’re a customer who comes to your profile page and wants to have a show, but you’re not online. Maybe that customer will go to another model, or maybe that customer will see that you offer a series of unique VODs for purchase. Interested in seeing you in action, the customer proceeds to purchase a couple VODs. Then, after watching (and loving) them, he/she makes sure to catch you the next time you are online.

Create a VOD Presence

Do you see how that worked? Because of your VOD presence, you were able to gain a new customer who can’t wait to take you into a private show. Pretty cool, right? Now, imagine if you remain consistent and make sure that you upload a few VODs per week and you go on to do that for several months. Pretty soon your VOD catalog will grow and grow, and given the tags that you choose, and what kind of customers you attract, you’ll have a solid chance to gain a ton of new followers and people who want to spend more and more time with your original content.

PROFILE PICS MAKES A POTENT DIFFERENCE

Appearances

Your profile picture is your calling card. Appearances are very important in the cam model world and your profile pic is at the top of the list. Every model has his or her own way of appearing beautiful. If you’re not attractive or interesting to a certain customer, that doesn’t mean that you won’t appeal to a different customer. It’s all a matter of personal perspective. However, I would say with confidence that having the perfect profile picture for whatever cam site you decide to model on will make a huge difference in how you are perceived.

For example, let’s say you are a vivacious adventurer who loves exercise and dance music, but your profile picture paints you as a Gothic loner who is into whips and chains. Can you see how that would be confusing to any customer who enters your room? What you need to ensure is that your profile picture is in perfect harmony with who you are as a model. You want to make sure that when customers come to your room, they know exactly what they are getting into. What I love the best is when a model has an amazing profile picture and, when I enter his/her room, that model is even sexier. That’s such a great feeling. And, as a model, I love it when customers come into my room and tell me how wonderful I look.

Choose Your Style

So, how do you pick the perfect profile picture? Well, it’s really a matter of perspective, but here are a few tips to keep in mind.

First, you want to make sure that you are presenting the self that you want to be. That might sound easy, but remember the example I gave above. Make sure that when fans enter your room, they gain access to a model who looks even more stunning than the stunning picture that caused them to first be curious about who you are.

Be Professional

Second — go professional. Sure, you can shoot a good selfie, or set a timer and take a good picture — that’s very possible, but the more professional you take yourself the more it will show in how people perceive you. Take the time to make your image look incredible in a way that speaks to your personality, and make sure the angle and presentation are both of the highest quality. You’ll thank me later.

Locations Matter

Third, choose a great location. Consider being photographed on a bed of roses, or beside a grand swimming pool. Whatever location you choose, make sure that it communicates the message that you want to represent you. People might not consciously focus on the location, but if you are paying attention to the location so that it enhances your photo, you can’t go wrong.

Smile

Fourth, smile or show your most seductive face. Imagine the camera is the eye of a customer, of someone who really wants to spend time with you. Whatever it takes, try to show a face that expresses the mood or the tone of what kind of a model you are. When in doubt, go to some cam sites and check out other models who align to your sensibilities. Do some research as to what techniques work for others, or what are scientifically valid. How have they been photographed? What makes them stick out?

Fifth, update, update, update. It’s probably a good idea to switch up your profile pic every so often. Spice is the variety of life. Be prepared with a good handful of profile pictures, and see which ones work better. If you notice a trend, consider doing a whole photo set of similar photos.

Don’t Be Afraid to Be Bold

As always, be bold. Be adventurous. And have fun! If you’re having fun, chances are the profile shots will look stunning. And, if you’re not satisfied, keep taking shots until you are. The awesome thing about being a cam model is that, for the most part, you are your own boss. That’s one reason why this work is so rewarding. So, go out, take amazing pics, and good luck!

SKILLS SHOWCASE: FOUR TIPS FOR CAM PROS

Whether you’re new to camming or have been at it for years, you’re probably still looking for ways to improve yourself (at least I hope you are). Then, you’ve come to the right place. In this column focused on skills, I’ll be exploring ways in which you can increase your potential as a top cam model by becoming more skillful at how you operate and what you focus on. And, since this is our first plunge into the blogging waters, I wanted to pull back and look at the word “skill” and how you can use that very word to make your awesome cam shows even better. Dictionary.com defines “skill” as, “the ability, coming from one’s knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well.” And it’s this particular definition that I want you to think about today. The questions you should be asking yourself are:

  • What skills do I currently have? Examine yourself.
  • What are my most valuable skills? Think in terms of value.
  • What skills can I use often on cam? Be realistic.
  • What skills should I develop as time goes on? Make a list.

Let’s open up each of these questions and see how they can all enhance your cam performances, and truly make you the best at your game.

WHAT SKILLS DO I HAVE?

All of us have something that we are good at. Also, some of us might be good at cooking delicious meals. Then again, others might be better at sports or athletics in general. Think about those things in your life that you’ve worked at or become good at through years of practice. What makes you unique? What makes you stand out from the crowd? I like to make a list of the things I’m good at and review it several times a year. What are you waiting for? Make your list. Figure out what skills you’ve developed by analyzing your daily life, by analyzing your hobbies, the things that you love doing. You just might surprise yourself.

WHAT ARE MY MOST VALUABLE SKILLS?

Okay, you’ve made your list. Now, it’s time for you to zone in on your most valuable skills. Hopefully, you have a nice list of things that you consider skills you are good at. Look at the list and trim it down to the top three things you are good at. Then, pay attention to those things that other people might be interested in. On my list I might include gardening, hiking, and exercising, but truth be told, these are not things I practice every day. What I really practice every day are photography, computer programming, and jazz dance. Once you identify your most valuable skills, you can move on to the next important question.

WHAT SKILLS CAN I USE ON CAM?

Not all skills are going to be interesting for your fans to see. Most will, though. Are you a good dancer? Show it off! Are you a poet? Read some of your poems?! Are you a stand-up comedian in the making? Why not tell some jokes. Your fans will really get to know the real you. Don’t be afraid. Express your most important skills to them. Trust me, it’ll keep them coming back for more and more.

WHAT SKILLS SHOULD I DEVELOP?

As time goes on, you’ll want to “check in” with yourself as to which new skills you are learning and which might need more practice. To this end, Camming is the perfect medium to test out new skills that you want to get better at It’s even better if that skill involves something that can be communicated to a large group of people. For example, are you considering learning a new language? Then, why not try to attract fans who speak the language you are trying to learn? It’ll really open your mind (and increase your earnings).

In reality not all of us will have the chance to travel to the beautiful Czech Republic. That doesn’t mean we can’t try our hand at studying the Czech language. We might start attracting customers who speak our native tongue AND customers who speak Czech. It’s an awesome chance to test out this particular skill.
